We are the heart of personalised and inclusive learning for children and young people with additional needs in the North. Blomfield is both a school and a resource centre for the community of Tai Tokerau to better support these learners in a range of settings. We have over 130 students aged between 5 -21 years enrolled at Blomfield, some at the Central Campus in Maunu Road, Whangarei, and some in one of our Satellite classes, which operate in Host schools in Whangarei, Oromahoe and in Kaitaia.
Satellite classes are classes that belong to a special school but are located in a nearby ‘mainstream’ school. Blomfield currently has 11 satellite classes at local primary and intermediate schools, plus secondary units in Kamo and Kaitaia. In Whangarei our older secondary students can attend our Transition facility working towards developing skills to equip them for adult life. Wherever our students go to school, it is important to us that they and their whanau feel a part of the Blomfield Community.
We personalise the New Zealand Curriculum to ensure it meets the specific learning profile of each student. This includes a focus on Numeracy and Literacy as well as the Key Competencies which emphasise Social, Communication, Physical and Self-Management skills and development.
We are determined to engage every student in our school to discover their potential. Our students are not an afterthought of programming- they are at the heart of all our work – as we seek to ensure they are fully included in the world they are learning more about every day. We believe it is not ‘where‘ a student is educated that makes their learning inclusive –it is ‘how’ they are taught. Come and see what we mean.
